Toolbox or Junk drawer?

posted 10-07-2008 by Steve Dion

This is a view of TWO drawer assemblies that I installed in out H31 under the port settee. If I were to do this again, I would have done it as a single installation. The one on the left side of the picture is the original unit. The one on the right is second unit. We use these drawers for tools, sail ties, misc parts etc.

The installation was very easy. Just got a saber saw and cut the hole to the correct size. Screwed it in from the interior side of the settee to make it look like the boat came with these drawers. The drawers come sanded and ready to finish. We decided to use Interlux varnish. Used about 2-3 coats of their Jet (quick dry) and then a couple of coats of the Hand Rubbed Effect finish.

We purchased these drawers as custom assemblies. They cost about $140 for each section (2 drawers per section). The top drawer is about 17-18 deep the bottom drawers are only about 6-8 inches. They have a locking lip at the bottom of the drawer so they do not fall out when you heal over. H and L Marine in Rancho Domiguez, CA. made them for us. Their phone number is 323/636-1718 and fax 323/636-1720. You make a drawing and fax it to them, they will then fax you back a drawing with the measurements and authorization.

Great people to work with.
