Skeg/rudder rebuild-serious delamination and previous owners spot patching -time for complete removal of both and rebuilding.

After removal of both skeg and rudder, the existing polyester skin removed to expose extent of damage. Multiple cracks and areas of delamination seen. After initial dry out process fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin used to seal and hold structure.

Fairing process begins using Total Boat total fair product. Lots of layers and sanding.

Fairing complete and a couple layers of epoxy based paint to seal it all together.

Final result-decided to leave the black carbon fiber finish for now. Should provide many years of good solid use and outlast the rest of this old boat!

Close up view of final result. Brought and old boat to a new and modern age (and maybe the the only 79 Hunter 30 with a carbon finished rudder and skeg!) and still cheaper than buying a replacement rudder/skeg.
