Stern Rail Seat

posted 09-12-2008 by Terry Cox

Hi fellow P42 owners. Ive been looking for an after market stern rail seat solution that can be added to our boat, but alas have not found one. Hard to do with the way the transom is set up with the push pit rails and gates. So, I set about designing and building one, Just finished it and did a sea trial last weekend to see how they worked. Wow, am I a much happier P42 owner! The solution works great. I had to make a minor modification and will take pictures and post them in the Photo Forum in the next few weeks. I made the seats from off the shelf material, folds up for easy storage or can hang on the outside of the life lines while underway much like the boarding step I made, the pictures of which are also in the Photo Forum. I just finished posting the stern rail seat modification in the Photo Forum. It seems to do the intended job, which is to lock the seat to the rail and preventing it from unclipping. I made the modification from 1/4 SS rod cutting threads in one end and bending the other end into the shape of a hook.
