Review of the Hunter Vision-32 by ron p

Year built 1990
Location of boat deceased
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Blue water, extended passages
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes it is lots of boat for the money lots of good times and memories when i purchased the boat i kept it in long beach island close to barnegat light house stayed on he every weekend and sailed every friday nite and on sunday after 3 years i took her to florida through the intercoastal to key largo where i purchased a slip (recently sold the slip) seaclusion (her name) and i sailed the entire lenght of the bahamas from walkers cay to georgetown in the exumas i left her there for a short period of time then returned to the states and went back to the bahamas the following year (eleuthra) sometimes there was someone special with me and sometimes i was solo but inspite of many problems on my second voyage had an increable time aon a great boat when you put that many miles in a few years you experience a bunch of things -- some very good and some not so good the boat is sound and the size of the engine is adaquate for the vessel living space is equivolent to boats 4 and 5 feet larger and sailing her was always a pleasure (once i installed the new roller furling) lots of open ports for an older boat
Gear that's been added i added a 30lb stainless plow anchor and 35 feet of chain to supplement the danforth bimini new sails and roller furling (all for sale by the way) great boat for cruising because of the amout of space available
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features see above
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. with exception of the sink - which always seems to spill water on you and the counter when using the faucet - nothing other than wear and tear stuff
Sailing characterisitcs the first boat i chartered was a hunter vision 36 honestly the boat sailed itself to this day i do not be lieve i have sailed on a more gentle boat so when i saw the 32 i jumped at it it does not sail as well as the 36 but the interior of the boat and the ease of its sailing characteristics sold me
Motoring characterisitcs the 27 yanmar when i bought the boat needed a new injecter and it was recommended to service the others i had them all replaced the engine did overheat before the replacement but not after on the second passage to the bahamas the engine overheat leaving the port of nassau it was caused by the saltwater exhaust hose splitting at the rear of the engine causing the engine to spew white smoke (steam) and thorouhly wet the engine with salt water i repaired the 4 inch hose with duct tape (what else) and continued to the berries (islands) i needed to return home in order to return to work and the return was uneventful however i was unaware of the damage that the salt water had caused and as a result had to replace the engine but i operated the old engine at above 2700rpms all the time when motorsailing and on occaison - when desperate - at 3200 rpms never a problem and believe me when i did hav e the rpms at those high levels it was almost llife or death and she purred
Liveability excellent more than one could expect on a 32 foot boat of that period
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) n/a
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any n/a
Other comments i have recently purchased a 33 hunter (2006) model i purchased it because of my experiences with my vision but i have been reading about the problems with the 33 including the engine all the reviews end somewhat favorable byt i intend to go beyond the bahamas wirh this boat and right now i am a bit skeptical hunter marine if you read this please make the adjustments that hunter owners are requesting this is my 4th sailboat and i hope to buy one more and a larger one at that
