Review of the Hunter 37.5 by Brian Fiala

Year built 1993
Location of boat Marina Bay Yacht Harbor, Richmond, CA
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. The boat is perfect for my current needs.
Gear that's been added no
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features The interior layout and light air performance
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. My only complaint is that the aft cabin gets wet when it rains. I first noticed the water on the floor beneath the dressing seat. Trying to locate the source, I discovered that the entire underside of my mattress was damp, and the cabinets that hold my clothing were also wet. At first I thought the leak might be from the hull to deck joint, but now I'm not so sure. I'm anxious to see if other owners of the Legend 37.5 have had similar problems, and what they've determined to be the source.
Sailing characterisitcs Very responsive in light wind.
Motoring characterisitcs The Yanmar seems completely adequate.
Liveability Very liveable. The boat is my home and has ample stowage for my belongings, but a couple would have trouble finding a place for all of their things. I'm 6' 2" and have no problem with the headroom, except in the aft cabin, where I frequently bonk my head trying to move about.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have not dealt directly with hunter
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any My experience with the yacht broker (Nelson's Yachts in Alameda, CA) was not at all satisfactory. They treated me like a second rate customer, did nothing to hep expedite the sale, and required numerous reminder calls to get each little step done. VERY unprofessional.
